古墳の別名を、茶臼塚、釈迦山古墳とも呼ばれている。 飯岡丘陵のほぼ中央、頂上近くに位置する古墳時代中期のもので、南山城地方を代表する、大きな円墳(現在、前方後円墳とする説もある)である。すでに盗掘にあって、遺物は何も残っていないと伝える。 伝承では、継体天皇の椀子王の塚というが確証はない。継体天皇の筒城宮に近いところから伝説になったものと思われる。 古墳の直径は60m、高さは9m。墳丘頂部は直径20mの平坦地になっている。葺石の存在もあり、北東部には濠がめぐっていた跡がある。

Gorogoro-yama Tumulus
This Barrow was built near the top and center of Inooka Hill in the middle of the Kofun era. This is the typical large round barrow(Today some believe it is a keyhole-shaped) in South-Yamashiro area. It is said that nothing is left because of robbery. It has a diameter of 60 meters and tall of 9 meters. The top of the barrow is a flat area which has a diameter of 20 meters.
