"It is said that this has been since ancient times at Kizu river which had the abundant quantity of water. This was bustling as the place of accumulation of timber when Heijo castle(Heijokyo) and Toudai temple(Todaiji) were built and as the only way of transportation of supplies until railroads were opend to traffic in modern times. There were 16 ferries between Kamo and Yodogawa juncture in Kizu river, and Kyotanabe had ferries of them. The ferry of Tomino was connecting Kawara and Tono."
