甘南備山の頂上に鎮座している。「かんなび」とは古来、神の御座所のことで、社殿を持たなかった時代には山嶽（さんがく）や森林などを神の御座所とし「神の社」「かんなび」「みもろ」と呼んでいた。神南備神社は、延喜式の制で小社に列せられたが、明治6（1873）年には村社格に、明治10（1877）年には延喜式内甘南備神社となった。 昭和5（1930）年に、神殿・神門・板塀と社地を取り巻く石柱・石の玉垣・石の鳥居が完成、現在の姿となっている。 ※小社…古く、神社の社格を大・中・小に分けたうちの最下位の神社

Kannabi Shrine
"Kannabi mountain's top is dedicated to this shrine. Kannabi meant Gozasho of gods from ancient times, and mountains or f0rests were called the Shrine of gods, Kannabi and Mimoro as Gozasho when there was no shrine. The shrine, the gate, the wall, the stone pillar and Tamayaki which surround the place and the gateway of stone to the shrine were completed. This is appearance of the present."
