近鉄新田辺駅下車。東口を出て田辺高校に向かう。馬坂川を渡らずに川沿いに少し南下。河原公民館と河原天満宮の裏側にひっそりと建っている。 『日本書紀』崇神天皇の条 武埴安彦(たけにはやすひこ)が天皇にそむいて輪韓河(わからがわ・木津川)の戦いに敗れ、軍兵は甲を脱ぎすてて逃げたが、後にその甲を脱いだところを「伽和羅」と称したと記されている。 『古事記』応神段 大山守命が宇治の近くでの戦に破れて宇治川に流され、訶和羅之前(かわらのさき・伽和羅)に来て沈んだ。鈎(かぎ)で探したところ、甲がかかり「かわら」と鳴ったという。そこでその地を「かわらのさき」と呼んだという。 『和名類聚抄(わみょうるいじゅうしょう)』 甲作郷(かわらづくりごう)の名が見え、この付近のことと長く考えられていたが、昭和63年(1988)から行われた八幡市の正法寺文書の調査により現在の八幡市八幡付近が、甲作郷であることが判明した。この付近は、『和名類聚抄』にいう「志摩郷」の地とされる。

Then, he sunk down. After that, people tried to search him with hook. While searching, the hook tumbled for shells and sound ""Kawara."" Therefore, people call there ""Kawaranosaki."""
