水量が豊富な木津川で、古代からあったとされる舟運。平城京や東大寺造営のときには木材の集積地として、また近世の鉄道開通まで、唯一の物資輸送路として賑わっていた。木津川には加茂から淀川合流点までの間に約１６か所の渡しがあり、そのうち７つの渡しが京田辺市にあった。富野の渡しは、河原から富野を結んでいた。水主の渡しは手原川から対岸へと連絡していた。

Mizushi ferry site
"This is an old ferry at Kizu river. When people build Heijyou-kyo and Toudai temple, lots of timbers were gathered here. In addition, until the opening of railways, people often use this to transport supplies. In Kizu river, there were 16 points of ferry between Kamo and Yodo river and 7 of these were in Kyotanabe. That of Tono took over from Kawara to Tono. That of Mizushi took over Tehara river."
