灌漑用水の管理にあたる人は、水取司と呼ばれていた。古い記録には饒速日命の六世の孫の伊香我色乎命の子孫である左京神別水取連（もいとりのむらじ）がはじめて水取に居住し、水取司の任にあたったことが記されている。水取の地名もここから生まれたと考えられる。

Mizutori tsukasa Monument
"The man who was in charge of maintenance of irrigation water was called Moitori-no-Tsukasa. According to old documents, Moitori-no-Muraji was the first man who lived in Moitori and in charge of Moitori-no-Tsukasa. This legend is believed to be the origin of the name of place Mizutori."
