本殿に残された棟札によると、薪神社の星野天神・住吉・武氏の三社は、天正年間(1573?92年)に再興された。寛永6(1629)年には、薪村と大住村の山論を板文にして奉納。明暦元(1655)年、薪村八幡宮・天満宮の縁起と宮座の定めをあらため、寛政6(1794)年に神社を造営、明治40(1907)年、天神社と八幡社を合祀して、薪神社とした。境内には、もともと甘南備山頂にあり、月読神が仮の姿をとって現れたと伝わる石も祀られている。また、『能楽発祥の碑』と刻まれた石碑も建てられている。

Takigi Shrine
"In the 40th year of Meiji era(1907),Ten shrine and Hachimansya were grouped and named it Takigi shrine. the stone which express the virtual figure of Tukuyomi god is enshrined in this precincts. And there stands the stone monument (engraved 「Origin of Nougaku」) about Nougaku which is Japanese traditional performance."
